Sinner and Djokovic withdraw from National Bank Open

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic have withdrawn from the 2026 National Bank Open in Montreal. The pair cited the need to manage their workloads ahead of the US Open. The decision marks the second consecutive year both players have skipped the Masters 1000 event.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on August 1. Sinner and Djokovic pulled out on July 24, following their appearances at Wimbledon where they met in the semifinals on July 10 and Sinner reached the final on July 12.

Carlos Alcaraz had already withdrawn due to a wrist injury sustained in April. Tournament director Valerie Tetrault expressed disappointment but said the organization respects the players' focus on health.

ATP extended Masters 1000 events to two weeks this season, a change that has drawn criticism from top players for contributing to an already crowded calendar. Last year the same three players also skipped the event in Canada.

With the top seeds absent, the field opens opportunities for other players to earn ranking points ahead of the US Open. Local fans will look to Felix Auger-Aliassime to provide a strong performance.
