Tangerang police suspect pocong terror rumor as robbery modus

Tangerang city police said the viral pocong terror rumor is likely a ploy to commit theft and robbery. Police chief Kombes Pol Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah urged residents to stay alert but not panic.

The statement was made in Tangerang on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Indra explained that the climate of fear from the mystical rumor could be exploited by criminals to act when residents are off guard.

Polresta Tangerang will increase night patrols together with Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa, and local officials. Residents are also encouraged to reactivate neighborhood security systems or night watches.

Police continue investigating to identify those involved and the real motive behind the rumor. Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity immediately via the 110 call center.
