Tidal announced a new policy to label fully AI-generated tracks and stop paying royalties on them. The changes take effect July 15.
Tidal said it will apply an "AI" icon to songs identified as 100 percent AI-generated. The streaming service will also remove royalties for such tracks, limiting payments to music directly produced, written and performed by people.
The company will deploy automated detection tools starting July 15. It plans to expand the labeling to substantially AI-generated music once detection technology improves.
Tidal will block or remove AI-generated tracks tied to fraud, including attempts to deceive listeners or involve unusual upload activity. Creators can dispute incorrect flags through support channels.
Competitors have taken similar steps. Deezer has demonetized most AI tracks, and Spotify introduced a "Verified by Spotify" badge that excludes AI-generated content.
