Addressing rumors of a potential fare hike, María Fernanda Ortiz, TransMilenio's manager, clarified the matter in a video shared on the company's social media. The projected 7.8% increase for 2026 stems from three main drivers: operational costs, the estimated minimum wage adjustment, and rising fuel prices.
Ortiz stated that "this fare reflects the increase in our operational costs, which are affected by the country's main macroeconomic figures. We must note that the IPC rose by 5.51% through October 2025." On the minimum wage, she noted an expected 11% rise for 2026, per government reports. "This is important, as we have 34,000 formal employees across our system who will benefit from the increase," she added.
Energy costs are a key factor, with diesel up over 14% this year and vehicular natural gas up 10%. These rises directly contribute to higher fares, impacting the sustainability of Bogotá's public transit system.
The announcement aims to provide transparency on TransMilenio's financial projections, a service that transports millions of users daily amid inflationary and labor pressures.
