Veteran defensive tackle Vita Vea has asked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to trade him following unsuccessful attempts to secure a new contract. His agent confirmed the request on Monday.
Vea, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and the Buccaneers' 2018 first-round pick, made the request after a hold-in during mandatory minicamp in June. The team drafted him No. 12 overall, and he has played his entire career in Tampa Bay.
He enters the final year of a four-year contract signed in 2022 and is set to earn $18 million this season. Training camp opens on Tuesday.
Agent Collin Roberts stated that Vea asked to be moved after the sides failed to agree on an extension. Multiple reports indicated the development emerged Monday evening.
