Writer denounces police visit and receives commander's apology

Journalist Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal reported that a Carabineros patrol arrived at his El Porce farm on May 11 without a court order. The Valle Police commander visited the writer the next day to offer apologies.

Gardeazábal recounted in his May 12 column that the officers arrived around 11 a.m. at the farm in rural Riofrío, Valle del Cauca. The writer refused to open the armored door and demanded a prosecutor's order, which was not presented.

Subintendent Taborda, who led the group, said he received orders from Colonel Bustamante, commander of the Carabineros, now called Icar. Gardeazábal linked the visit to his previous column on the murder of journalist Mateo Pérez.

Brigadier General Sandra Liliana Rodríguez Castro, commander of the Valle Police, went to the farm on May 12. She explained that the patrol was part of the “Finca segura” program and apologized for the incident.

Gardeazábal stated that he will not accept security schemes and will continue criticizing President Gustavo Petro's Total Peace policy.
