Yellow alert issued for rain and hail across all Mexico City boroughs

Mexico City activated a yellow alert for heavy rain, hail and strong winds on Sunday, May 10, with the south and east areas most affected.

The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection issued the alert for all 16 boroughs between 14:00 and 21:00 hours. Rainfall of 15 to 29 millimeters was forecast, along with hail and wind gusts exceeding 50 kilometers per hour.

Authorities advised residents to clear drains of debris, close doors and windows, avoid crossing flooded streets and use umbrellas when outside. The most affected boroughs were Coyoacán, Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan and Xochimilco.

The National Meteorological Service linked the conditions to cold front 50, a dry line and a subtropical jet stream. Rain began at 16:00 hours, with thunderstorms expected into the night.
