Young goalie Holmkvist leaves Timrå for Skellefteå

Sixteen-year-old goaltender Manne Holmkvist has decided to join Skellefteå after two years in Timrå’s junior program. The move will take him more than 400 kilometers north and mark his first time living away from home.

Holmkvist weighed options carefully before choosing Skellefteå for the upcoming season. He created lists of advantages and disadvantages for both clubs to reach his decision.

“I wanted to make an adventure of it and move away from home for real,” he told Sundsvalls Tidning. “Timrå was a great alternative and it would have been fun to stay, but it became more about this being my own adventure.”

The teenager noted the security of remaining at home in Njurunda but said his mother had left home at the same age. The transfer ends his time with Timrå’s youth setup and begins a new chapter in northern Sweden.
