Aamir Khan's first look as Dahaa in Coolie unveiled

Superstar Aamir Khan's first look from the upcoming Tamil action thriller Coolie was released on Thursday, showcasing him in a rugged new avatar. The film, headlined by Rajinikanth, features Khan in a special cameo role as Dahaa. Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie is set for an August 14 release worldwide on IMAX screens.

The first look of Aamir Khan in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie depicts the actor in a black vest, with a tattooed arm, smoking a pipe, and wearing glasses. This appearance marks Khan's debut collaboration with Rajinikanth in the high-octane action film, which also stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan. The production is handled by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The storyline reportedly revolves around gold smuggling.

The official announcement came via a tweet from the makers: "Introducing #AamirKhan as Dahaa, from the world of #Coolie 😎⚡#Coolie is all set to dominate IMAX screens worldwide from August 14th 🔥." This release timing pits Coolie against Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 at the box office. Initially announced for Hindi release as Majadoor, the dubbed version has been retitled Coolie: The Power House.

Nagarjuna, who plays the antagonist, shared his experience in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India: "I had such a liberating experience. I asked him a couple of times if he was sure he wanted me to behave a certain way and if people acted this way, and Lokesh would go, 'Yes, sir, people are very evil!'"

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for directing Vijay's Leo (2023), Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022), Vijay's Master (2021), and Karthi's Kaithi (2019), described working with Rajinikanth as a dream: "I want to show him what a Kamal Haasan fan can do with a Rajinikanth film."

Khan appears in Coolie fresh from his recent comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par, adding to the film's star-studded appeal in Tamil cinema.
