Chamber President Jorge Alessandri (UDI) estimated that the National Reconstruction and Economic Development bill could reach the Chamber floor in May and the Senate in June. In an interview on Canal 13's Mesa Central, he criticized the opposition for labeling the initiative as benefiting the 'super rich' and called for broad agreements to revive the economy. A Criteria poll showed 38% approval for President José Antonio Kast and divided opinions on the project.
Jorge Alessandri, Chamber of Deputies President, projected on Sunday that the megaproyecto announced by José Antonio Kast's government will advance quickly in Congress. "I would say that given the speed of the Finance Committee's sessions, May is the month it would be in the Chamber floor and June is when it would be in the Senate," he stated on Canal 13's Mesa Central. He noted that after the district week, urgency sums will be renewed for the Finance, Environment, and Labor committees to review their articles in 15 days.
The bill includes over 40 measures on taxes, employment, permitting, and reconstruction. Alessandri questioned opposition tensions, particularly from the Socialist Party, Broad Front, and Communist Party, who call it an exclusive benefit for the 'super rich.' "Draft your own 43 measures (...) If it's just 'no' from one side and proposals from the other, it ends in a zero-sum clash," he challenged, defending that it mainly benefits the middle class and SMEs, unlike previous reforms.
A Criteria survey showed 37% positively evaluate the project, 24% oppose it, and 39% have no clear stance. 69% believe it will benefit higher-income people and 78% large companies, though 51% see it focused on them. Kast's approval rose to 38%, with 49% disapproval.
Entrepreneurs valued the growth boost but requested more focus on SMEs and startups. The Socialist Party declared 'frontal opposition' and called it a 'hidden tax reform.' Gustavo Alessandri of AChM warned of municipal fund losses from contribution exemptions for those over 65.
