Apple is developing AirPods equipped with cameras set for release in late 2027. The devices would use the cameras as AI sensors to provide visual context to Siri.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman disclosed the plans on Tuesday. The earbuds, code-named B798, were originally slated for 2026 but faced delays tied to AI software development.
The cameras would not capture photos or video. Instead they would feed data to Apple's Visual Intelligence system, allowing Siri to answer questions about a user's surroundings such as suggesting recipes from visible ingredients.
Apple unveiled related Siri and Visual Intelligence features at WWDC 2026. The company is also reported to be preparing smart glasses and a wearable camera pendant for around the same period.
A second-generation foldable iPhone and a special 20th-anniversary iPhone model are expected alongside the new AirPods. Apple has not confirmed any of the devices.
