Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the World Cup 2026 semi-final in Atlanta on Wednesday. Lionel Messi assisted both goals for the holders after Anthony Gordon had put the Three Lions ahead.
Argentina came from behind to knock England out and set up a final against Spain in New Jersey on Sunday.
Anthony Gordon scored in the 55th minute from Morgan Rogers' cross. England led until late in the match when Enzo Fernandez equalised from distance and Lautaro Martinez headed the winner in the 92nd minute.
Thomas Tuchel defended his substitutions after the defeat. "The responsibility is on the coach," he told BBC Sport. "At the moment, no regrets. The team gave everything and we were very, very close."
England will face France in the third-placed play-off in Miami on Saturday.
