Spain claimed their second World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time at the 2026 final. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The match ended Argentina’s bid to retain the trophy they won in 2022. Spain dominated possession but needed extra time after Emiliano Martinez produced 11 saves to keep the score level through 90 minutes.
Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card in the 90th minute, leaving Argentina with ten men. Torres converted a close-range finish from Nico Williams’ cross 37 seconds into the second period of extra time.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni said his team knew how to lose after competing to the end. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente described the win as the result of years building an idea and philosophy that delivered both the European Championship and the World Cup in successive summers.
