Black Stone Cherry release cover of Simple Minds classic

Black Stone Cherry have unveiled a fresh take on Simple Minds' iconic track 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'. The cover features a collaboration with Tyler Connolly from Theory of a Deadman and serves as the lead single from their upcoming EP. This reimagining pays homage to the song's roots in the 1980s film The Breakfast Club.

The Kentucky-based southern rock band Black Stone Cherry announced their latest single on January 18, 2026, offering a swinging reinterpretation of Simple Minds' 1985 hit 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'. This track introduces their forthcoming EP, titled Celebrate, scheduled for release on March 6 via Mascot Records. The collaboration brings in long-time friend Tyler Connolly, vocalist and guitarist of Theory of a Deadman, adding a special touch to the rendition.

Chris Robertson, Black Stone Cherry's vocalist and guitarist, shared his personal connection to the song in a statement. Born in the mid-1980s, he recalled watching The Breakfast Club countless times during his youth, with the film's soundtrack—particularly this track—leaving a lasting impression. "One of my favourite parts of the movie was always the music and specifically ‘don’t you’! So when the chance for us to BLACK STONE CHERR-ify the track emerged it was a no brainer," Robertson explained. He expressed enthusiasm about involving Connolly: "We are beyond excited to share that we enlisted the help of our dear friend Tyler Connolly to help out."

Fans can stream the cover immediately, while pre-orders for Celebrate are available through Mascot Records. This release highlights Black Stone Cherry's tradition of blending rock influences with nostalgic elements, building anticipation for the EP's full tracklist. The band's official Facebook page provides further updates on their projects.
