Atlanta Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos addressed the team's plans ahead of the 2026 Trade Deadline during a Sunday appearance on MLB Network Radio.
Anthopoulos said the club is seeking upgrades, particularly in pitching, though adding a bat remains possible depending on the market. He noted that the Braves would pursue a playoff-caliber starter or reliever if available.
The executive acknowledged challenges in completing deals, citing a slow-moving seller’s market with many teams still in playoff contention. Resurgent Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox clubs have reduced the likelihood of trades involving arms such as Tarik Skubal and Sonny Gray.
Potential returns from the injured list include Ronald Acuña Jr., who could rejoin the lineup before the end of the current homestand. Pitchers Spencer Schwellenbach and AJ Smith-Shawver are also progressing in their recoveries.
The 2026 Trade Deadline is scheduled for Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
