Byron Buxton misses fourth straight game with hip issue

Byron Buxton stayed out of the Minnesota Twins starting lineup for a fourth consecutive game on Friday while dealing with a right hip impingement.

The 32-year-old last played on June 28. He underwent an MRI after feeling discomfort in his swing during the previous weekend series against the Colorado Rockies.

Twins manager Derek Shelton said before Friday's game at Yankee Stadium that the recent off-day had been helpful. He added that the team would take a day-to-day approach and hoped to have more information after Buxton completed his activities.

Buxton is batting .268 with a .898 OPS and 25 home runs in 73 games this season. He remains a candidate for his third All-Star selection, with rosters set to be announced on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Utility player Ryan Kreidler started in center field for the fourth straight game. The Twins have averaged 4.88 runs per game this season, sixth in the majors, and scored 17 runs during their recent series against the Houston Astros.
