Carlos Ortiz voices concerns about LIV Golf future

Carlos Ortiz has offered a cautious assessment of LIV Golf's prospects after the 2026 season. Speaking at the BMW International Open in Germany, the Torque GC member said the outlook does not look strong. His comments contrast with more optimistic statements from other players in the league.

Ortiz, who has earned around $34 million since joining LIV in 2022, addressed reporters after his round on Friday. "It’s looking a little bit tough; hopefully there’s a way forward," he said. "I honestly don’t know all the situation, but it’s not looking great, obviously, as we all know. That’s a shame."

LIV Golf faces uncertainty after the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund announced it will end funding following the 2026 season. The league is seeking between $250 million and $300 million from outside investors for 2027. CEO Scott O’Neil has described positive momentum but has not guaranteed funding through the end of this year.

Other players including Bryson DeChambeau and Sergio Garcia have expressed confidence in a business plan for team golf. Martin Kaymer reported a positive update from a recent meeting with O’Neil. Jon Rahm has chosen not to participate in investor pitches.

LIV Golf has three events remaining on its 2026 schedule after postponing the New Orleans Tournament. The UK event will follow the Open Championship, with stops in Indianapolis and Michigan to conclude the year.
