Carly Rae Jepsen has released the single On Wires along with a music video. The track serves as the lead single from her upcoming double album Day and Night.
The song arrived on June 26. It is described as one of Jepsen’s most ambitious tracks to date, opening with staccato piano before exploding into an arena rock chorus.
On Wires was produced by Kyle Shearer and co-written by Jepsen, Shearer, and Nate Cyphert. The Caio Vieira-directed video shows Jepsen singing through a concert hall and down the street.
Jepsen discussed the video’s origins in an NME interview. She had initially pictured chasing a man through New York streets but adjusted the concept after becoming six months pregnant. The final idea features a tug-of-war between her and a microphone cable.
Day and Night, her eighth studio album, is scheduled to arrive on Sept. 18 via Interscope Records. It will contain 24 tracks split across two LPs.
