Carly Simon reveals Parkinson's diagnosis and new album

Carly Simon announced her Parkinson's disease diagnosis in a letter to fans on July 27. The 83-year-old singer-songwriter also shared details of her recent skin cancer surgery. Her new album Comes in Waves is scheduled for release on August 14.

Simon described living with Parkinson's in her letter, noting its unpredictable effects on energy and mobility. She explained that symptoms began after knee and hip replacement surgeries, leading to an evaluation at the Mayo Clinic and formal diagnosis.

The musician also underwent treatment for basal cell carcinoma on her face, which left her self-conscious about her appearance. She wrote that the combination of health challenges prompted her to withdraw from public view for a period.

Despite these difficulties, Simon completed her first album in nearly 20 years while housebound. Comes in Waves features songs developed over many years and was recorded at her home in Martha's Vineyard. It includes contributions from her children Ben and Sally Taylor.

Simon stated she is still writing, singing, and working while learning to manage the illness. She expressed gratitude to family, friends, and medical staff for their support.
