Citlalli Hernández, president of Morena's National Elections Commission, criticized Trans collectives for breaking candelabras at Metro Hidalgo during their protests.
The demonstrations began on June 19 outside the Secretariat of the Interior. The collectives demanded a meeting with Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez and approval of a Comprehensive Trans Law.
On July 9 protesters broke two candelabras at Hidalgo station on Line 2. Each piece cost 56 thousand pesos, according to Adrián Rubalcava, director of the Metro.
Hernández stated in an interview that she found the use of damage suspicious when a government open to dialogue exists. “Every act of protest is legitimate. What seems strange to me is suspicious that in an environment where there seems to be an attempt by several fronts to destabilize the Fourth Transformation, a group decides to protest by breaking things,” she noted.
The protests continued after the June 24 eviction by the National Guard. The collectives cited CNDH recommendation 42/2024 on gender identity.
