Deputy PM Temsgen Tiruneh says Ethiopia building sustainable tourism projects

Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister Temsgen Tiruneh stated that the country is constructing projects for sustainable tourism development. He highlighted a major hotel project in Bahir Dar as a key example.

On May 4, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Temsgen Tiruneh said Ethiopia is building projects for sustainable tourism development.

In Bahir Dar, around Lake Tana, the former Tana Hotel is being upgraded to world-class 'For P B S' standards by Midroc Investment Group. Temsgen Tiruneh noted that ongoing resorts and hotels in Bahir Dar will significantly contribute to positioning the city as a global tourism hub.

The hotel, costing 3 billion birr over 32,440 square meters, will feature 4 modern restaurants, souqs, 120 contemporary guest rooms, lounges, and state-of-the-art amenities. He described this as expanding hotel investments to boost tourism revenue and fostering a culture of starting and executing national projects, exemplified by Bahir Dar.

Midroc Investment Group is expected to demonstrate its proven capability from past major national projects through this initiative.
