DF assembly approves new rules for priority parking spots

The Legislative Chamber of the Federal District approved on Tuesday (December 2) a bill expanding accessibility rules and standardizing signage for priority parking spots across the DF. Authored by Deputy Pepa (PP), the proposal redefines the priority group and adopts the official autism symbol. The text now heads to the local executive for sanction.

The Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF) approved on Tuesday (December 2) the expansion of accessibility rules and standardization of signage for parking spots designated for priority groups across the DF. With the change, article 5 of Law 4.568 now requires all priority spots to have vertical and horizontal signage clearly displaying all priority symbols.

The bill, authored by Deputy Pepa (PP), also redefines the priority group to include people with physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA). Another key update is the official adoption of the autism symbol—a puzzle-patterned ribbon—that must appear alongside current icons on reserved spots.

In the bill's justification, Pepa emphasized that the measure reinforces accessibility rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution, the Brazilian Inclusion Law, and international treaties to which Brazil is a signatory. Approved by the district deputies, the project now awaits sanction from the local executive head, Governor Ibaneis Rocha.
