Homelander discovered that Soldier Boy had been sleeping with Firecracker and engaging in pillow talk with her. In the final moments of season 5 episode 5, he made an example of her by pushing her head into a golden eagle statue, impaling her brain. Kripke noted to TVLine that this was hardly the most graphic death on the show, but its subtlety made it haunting nonetheless. Eric Kripke explained that the team always intended for Homelander to kill Firecracker, possibly since her introduction. He portrayed her as representing Trump loyalists such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Megyn Kelly, Lauren Boebert, and Pam Bondi. 'It's the most predictable pattern in the world, which is Trump demanding ultimate allegiance, making someone compromise every value they've ever had, and then kicking them out into the cold,' Kripke said. Kripke emphasized the point: 'It doesn't matter how much you kiss Homelander's a**, it doesn't matter how much you give up. Nothing will ever be enough, and you'll eventually get hoisted on your own petard.' Firecracker had a chance to do the right thing in the episode but chose not to. The death highlights how those around Homelander suppress their own views out of fear, leading to silence that could make him vulnerable, as Kripke described a common weakness of dictators.
