Final Fantasy X remaster gets dedicated Switch 2 port

Square Enix has announced a new version of Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD Remaster for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game will launch on July 23, 2026. It features updated graphics and quality of life improvements.

The announcement came ahead of a Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for June 9, 2026. The remaster includes both Final Fantasy X from 2001 and its 2003 sequel Final Fantasy X-2. This Switch 2 edition brings full HD graphics for characters, monsters, and backgrounds along with remastered music. It also adds elements from the International Version and features such as high-speed mode and no random encounters. A key limitation is that save data will not transfer between the original Nintendo Switch version and the new Switch 2 release. Square Enix has not yet clarified whether owners of the 2019 Switch edition will receive a free upgrade or need to pay extra.
