Foreign minister Cho to attend G7 meeting in Canada next week

South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will travel to Canada next week to attend the expanded G7 foreign ministerial meeting. He plans to deliver remarks on maritime security and prosperity, as well as energy security and critical minerals, areas tied to national interests. The four-day trip starts on Tuesday at Canada's invitation.

According to the foreign ministry, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will undertake a four-day trip starting Tuesday, at the invitation of Canada, the host of this year's G7 meetings. He plans to deliver remarks in two expanded sessions of top diplomats, focusing on maritime security and prosperity, as well as energy security and critical minerals—areas closely related to South Korea's national interests.

On the sidelines of the gathering, Cho intends to hold a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from key nations. This trip aligns with South Korea's efforts to expand its role within the G7 forum and deepen cooperation with member countries, including the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan.

In context, President Lee Jae Myung attended the expanded leaders' session of the G7 summit in Alberta in June, shortly after taking office. Cho's participation in the foreign ministerial meeting continues this momentum in diplomatic engagement.

South Korea aims to strengthen its position on the international stage through such collaborations, with the meeting expected to offer opportunities for both bilateral and multilateral ties.
