K-pop star G-Dragon has been appointed honorary ambassador for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session scheduled in Busan from July 19 to 29.
The Korea Heritage Service announced on July 3 that G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, will serve as the public face of the session. South Korea will host the committee meeting for the first time in 38 years since joining the World Heritage Convention in 1988.
G-Dragon established the JusPeace Foundation in 2024 by donating his copyrights and currently serves as its honorary chairman. He will support the “Heritage in Peace” global campaign, to be launched jointly with UNESCO next Friday, to raise funds for the World Heritage Fund.
The agency described him as an “ideal partner” to raise awareness, noting his global influence beyond K-pop. A representative for G-Dragon said, “World heritage is a shared asset that must be protected by all humanity.”
He previously served as honorary ambassador for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju last year.
