Fifteen regional ministerial secretaries have left their posts just over a month after President José Antonio Kast took office at La Moneda. Spokesperson Minister Mara Sedini attributed the exits to thorough background checks uncovering unforeseen issues. The latest case involved actor Renato Münster, who resigned for personal reasons.
Chile's government has seen 15 regional ministerial secretaries depart since José Antonio Kast took office at La Moneda just over a month ago. Spokesperson Minister Mara Sedini explained that backgrounds of hundreds of candidates have been thoroughly reviewed, though unforeseen details sometimes emerge.
"The signal this sends is that we are taking immediate decisions," Sedini stated. She added: "As soon as the backgrounds are not conclusive for what we expect from a seremi, we do not proceed."
In the most recent case, actor Renato Münster resigned from the Culture secretariat in the Metropolitan Region one day after assuming the role, citing personal matters. This followed the resurfacing of old social media posts questioning Kast. According to Sedini, the Ministry of Cultures regretted his departure due to a personal issue.
Additionally, on Thursday, the first flight expelled irregular immigrants to Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia. Sedini noted that a humanitarian corridor to restore migration order is not ruled out, with ongoing discussions led by the Foreign Ministry.
