Housing minister orders fast-tracked completion of New Capital's business district

Egypt's Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny held a meeting to review progress on the Central Business District project in the New Administrative Capital, stressing its strategic importance and ordering its completion in the shortest possible time while upholding the highest quality standards.

In his regular meeting, Sherif El-Sherbiny emphasized the need to complete all works according to approved designs, including hotel components, under close and continuous monitoring. The session reviewed progress on civil defence systems in residential and administrative towers, the status of finishing works at the Iconic Tower and Crescent Towers, as well as landscaping, external works, operational readiness, and remaining finishing items across the Central Business District (CBD).

The CBD features a cluster of mixed-use towers, including administrative, office, commercial, and service buildings, with a total built-up area of around 806,000 square metres and heights ranging from 80 to 175 metres. It also includes five fully finished residential towers offering about 1,700 housing units, with a total area of 102,000 square metres and heights between 152 and 200 metres.

Key elements include the four interconnected Crescent Towers, which house a hotel, serviced apartments, public services, recreational facilities, and commercial spaces, alongside the Iconic Tower, Africa's tallest at nearly 400 metres. The tower will host a global hotel brand entering Egypt and Africa for the first time, plus hotel and administrative units and a commercial zone providing business, hospitality, and recreational services. It comprises 40 multi-purpose office floors, 10 floors of serviced apartments with 52 units, and 30 hotel floors with 183 rooms, totaling around 266,000 square metres.

El-Sherbiny directed all stakeholders to accelerate remaining works to meet targeted delivery schedules and finalize operational and maintenance arrangements. He also reviewed development at the Downtown Towers project in New Alamein City, covering façade works, electromechanical installations, finishing, infrastructure, and landscaping, instructing contractors to intensify efforts, especially on façades, landscaping, and rooftop areas. The project includes five fully finished residential towers with integrated services, featuring an iconic tower at 250 metres (68 floors, 465,000 square metres) and four additional 200-metre towers (56 floors each, combined 320,000 square metres).

Additionally, El-Sherbiny examined progress on the Downtown Lagoon Lakes project in New Alamein City, developed between the Downtown towers. It features seven islands and 11 lagoons surrounded by a tourist promenade, designed to rival leading international developments.
