President Cyril Ramaphosa was looking forward to the testimony of Investigating Directorate Against Corruption head Andrea Johnson at the Madlanga Commission on 13 July 2026, but she failed to appear after submitting a medical certificate.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed that the president was examining the matter. Johnson’s legal representative informed the commission that she had been rushed to hospital with serious health issues and was booked off until 15 July.
Commission chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga described the medical certificate as one of those which were basically useless because they give no information whatsoever.
Johnson was expected to address allegations that she had passed the contents of a confidential criminal complaint to Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan while she was still a senior prosecutor at the National Prosecuting Authority.
She is the fourth witness to miss proceedings citing medical reasons, a pattern that has raised public concern about the integrity of the commission.
