An Indiana woman has been sentenced to 10 to 30 years in prison for her involvement in the 2023 killing of her former partner in Michigan.
Markeisha Burns-Cross, 27, entered a no contest plea to second-degree murder in April and received the sentence this week. She had been accused of driving her then-boyfriend to the home of Devon L. Williams, the father of her child, where the shooting occurred.
The incident took place on March 29, 2023, in Buena Vista Township, Michigan. According to court records, Zakeem Jones fired multiple shots at Williams after an argument fueled by jealousy, leaving Williams, who was unarmed and with children in the home, dead.
Burns-Cross testified against Jones, who was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. She was arrested in July 2023 on first-degree murder charges that were reduced as part of her plea deal.
The prosecutor described the attack as a premeditated ambush, noting that Williams had no warning of the confrontation.
