Justice orders arrest of São Paulo feminicide suspect

A Brazilian court has issued a temporary arrest warrant for Erick Pereira dos Santos, known as Cicatriz, suspected of killing Angélica Alves Camargo. Her body was found inside a supermarket cart in the early hours of December 2 in São Paulo's east zone. He remains at large and is being sought by police.

Angélica's body was discovered by chance by a man investigating the theft of two bicycles. He followed Cicatriz, described as a street resident, in a Fiat Uno and observed the suspect pushing the cart along Rua General Oscar Carvalho in Vila Formosa. Noticing the pursuit, Cicatriz fled and abandoned the cart, revealing the victim's body.

The Military Police were called, and the investigation was handed to the Civil Police. Surveillance cameras captured the moment the man transported the body through the public street. "The coldness demonstrated by his conduct—transporting the body of a lifeless woman through the public way using a cart—evidences a high degree of dangerousness and disregard for minimum social control mechanisms," states an excerpt from the DHPP's (Department of Homicide and Protection of Persons) arrest request.

The owner of a nearby bar reported that Cicatriz consumed two beers without paying, ran away, and left a pouch containing a pipe, lighter, and a sachet. The suspect was identified through police system photos and footage from the Muralha Paulista, the state government's camera network. Forensic exams have been requested to determine the cause of death.

The case comes amid a record rise in feminicides in São Paulo's capital. In 2025, 53 cases have been recorded so far, surpassing the 51 from 2024, the previous record. According to the Sou da Paz Institute, the capital accounts for one in every four state feminicides, with a 23% increase in the first ten months compared to 2024 and 71% versus 2023. Most crimes (67%) occur in homes, with bladed weapons or blunt objects used in over half of the cases.
