The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has issued an advisory warning of intensified rainfall from April 22 to 27 across coastal, northeastern and southeastern lowland regions.
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) issued the advisory on April 21, forecasting intensified rains from April 22 to 27. Rainfall accumulations may exceed 20 millimetres in 24 hours in some areas, particularly along the Coast. Affected counties include Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu, as well as Garissa, parts of Wajir and Mandera, Taita-Taveta, Kitui and Makueni.
The statement read: “Rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country. From April 22 to April 22 2026, the rainfall is likely to intensify, with accumulations exceeding 20mm in 24 hours over the Coast, as well as parts of the Northeastern and Southeastern Lowlands.” Rainfall may be accompanied by gusty winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to about 12.5 metres per second.
Along the Coast, sea conditions are expected to be rough, with wave heights above two metres. Residents have been advised to stay vigilant for possible floods, flash floods and poor visibility. They should avoid driving or walking through moving water, open fields during thunderstorms, and sheltering under trees or near structures like grilled windows due to lightning risks.
Maritime operators have been urged to take precautions. KMSA said it will provide prompt updates if conditions change.
