Lee vows pragmatic diplomacy to tackle global uncertainties

President Lee Jae Myung vowed Friday to tackle global challenges by pursuing pragmatic diplomacy centered on national interests and strengthening trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan.

The remarks came in a message read by Seong Ghi-hong, senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication, at an annual peace forum co-hosted by Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Unification and the Institute for National Security Strategy.

Lee cited geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, uncertainties in global supply chains and intensifying competition in advanced technologies, saying the world faces overlapping crises on multiple fronts.

The government will seek solutions through strategic thinking and pragmatic diplomacy focused on national interests that responds swiftly to changing global trends, he said. Lee also pledged to strengthen trilateral cooperation with the U.S. and Japan while maintaining mutual respect and deeper cooperation with neighboring countries.

Lee pledged large-scale investments to support cutting-edge industries and transform South Korea into a global industrial powerhouse, saying the government will secure new growth engines that lead global markets.
