Lego launches Pokémon TCG design contest

Lego has announced a new Lego Ideas contest inviting fans to submit designs for sets inspired by Pokémon Trading Card Game cards. The Pokémon Trading Card Game Challenge requires builds between 400 and 2500 pieces featuring one Pokémon from a pre-selected list. The winning design will become an official Lego set.

Lego announced the Pokémon Trading Card Game Challenge on March 31, as first spotted by Jay’s Brick Blog. Participants must create original Lego sets that recreate a 'dynamic' Pokémon TCG card, complete with a frame showcasing a single Pokémon. Eligible Pokémon include Alolan Exeggutor, Arceus, Ceruledge, Chandelure, Darkrai, Dragonite, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Gengar, Giratina, Greninja, Gyarados, Hawlucha, Jigglypuff, Joltik, Lucario, Luxray, Machamp, Meowth, Metagross, Mew, Mewtwo, Ninetales, Rowlet, Tinkaton, Torterra, Toxtricity, Tyranitar, Wailord and Zoroark. Submissions are open until May 6 via the official contest website. The Lego Ideas Review Board will then select up to five entries for a fan vote round starting May 28 and running until June 11. Lego members will vote on their favorites, with the top design advancing to production as a real set for future sale. Lego secured the Pokémon license about a year ago and has released sets based on the games and cartoons. This contest marks the company's first direct crossover with the Pokémon TCG.
