Lego Sega Genesis retro console set announced for $40, shipping June 2026

Lego and Sega have announced a $40 Sega Genesis-inspired building set, the most affordable in its retro gaming lineup with 479 pieces. Featuring detachable controllers, a Sonic game cartridge, and Mega Drive customization, it ships June 1, 2026, following hits like the NES and Game Boy.

The compact Lego Sega Genesis Console set recreates the iconic system at about half the original size, fitting on a notebook surface (roughly 1.5 inches high, 6 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep). It includes two detachable three-inch controllers, sticker decorations, a mock Sonic and Tails cartridge, blocks for a hidden Sonic portrait, and options for North American Genesis or international Mega Drive branding.

Announced May 3 and first reported widely May 5, the set targets retro enthusiasts as an impulse buy. For comparison, the Lego NES retailed at $230 with 2,646 pieces, and the Game Boy at $60 for 421 pieces—making this the cheapest retro gaming Lego set yet. It follows releases like the Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy, and a standalone Sega Genesis Controller kit that sold out quickly. Industry observers predict the original PlayStation as a likely next target. Available from Lego online and physical stores starting June 1, 2026.
