SNK and Plaion Replai have unveiled the Neo Geo AES+, a modern remake of the classic 1990s high-end console. The device supports original cartridges and adds HDMI output along with other upgrades. Preorders are now open ahead of a November shipping date.
SNK and Plaion Replai, the team behind the Commodore 64 remake, announced the Neo Geo AES+ to bring the original Advanced Entertainment System into the modern era. The console retains compatibility with original cartridges and includes HDMI support for resolutions up to 1080p. It also features DIP switches for language selection, overclocking, and display modes, plus a memory card for saving high scores and a low-power mode. For purists, an original AV output allows use with CRT displays. Preorders are available for two editions. The standard black version, including an arcade stick, costs $249.99. The 35th anniversary white bundle adds a limited-edition Metal Slug cartridge and memory card for $349.99. Plaion Replai will release 10 modernized cartridges, such as Metal Slug and The King of Fighters 2002, at $89.99 each. This follows the original Neo Geo AES's $649.99 launch price. Shipping begins on November 12.
