Leung Chun-ying launches TCM trading platform linking mainland and global markets

Former Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying launched a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) trading platform on Thursday in Nansha, Guangdong province, to connect mainland Chinese manufacturers with international markets using Hong Kong's testing and certification systems. The Shouchuang platform, established under the TCM All-sector Hong Kong Centre founded by Leung in 2022, aims to promote centralisation, standardisation, marketisation and transparency in trade.

Former Hong Kong leader and vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Leung Chun-ying, launched the Shouchuang Traditional Chinese Medicine Trading platform on Thursday in Nansha, Guangdong province. The Hong Kong-based platform, an independent third party, seeks to boost transparency, efficiency, and the global reach of TCM trade.

“We believe that only with good medicinal materials can there be good TCM practitioners and good proprietary medicines; only with a good market can good materials be purchased efficiently and reliably,” Leung said at the launch. He added: “Therefore, we must build a trading platform that guarantees quality, centralises buyers and sellers, provides high trading efficiency, offers accurate, timely, transparent and comprehensive supply and price information, and reduces the time cost of transactions.”

The launch ceremony, held concurrently in Nansha and Hong Kong, was attended by more than 450 representatives from TCM manufacturers, distributors and local governments.

The platform was established under the TCM All-sector Hong Kong Centre, which Leung founded in 2022 to leverage Hong Kong’s unique position in the national strategy for high-quality TCM development.
