Losada defends confidentiality in labor reform debates

Senator Carolina Losada rejected leaks about the labor reform project discussed in the Mayo Council. She assured that a confidentiality pact exists and nothing is finalized yet. The leaked draft includes nine key points to flexibilize the labor market.

Carolina Losada, a radical senator and member of the Mayo Council, emphasized the seriousness of the meetings on the labor reform that Javier Milei's Government plans to send to Congress in extraordinary sessions. "There is a confidentiality pact and whoever speaks about how the project will be lies, because nothing is closed yet," she told Perfil. This group, led by Federico Sturzenegger, Minister of Deregulation, includes Guillermo Francos, Cristian Ritondo, Alfredo Cornejo, Gerardo Martínez from the CGT, and Martín Rappallini from the UIA.

The reform is part of the 10 points agreed with governors in July 2024. Meetings have been monthly among counselors and weekly among technical teams, with ad hoc calls to ministers. Despite the secrecy, a leaked draft revealed nine axes: modification of indemnity calculation, changes in seniority criteria, vacation fractionation, adjustments in working conditions at the employer's discretion, incorporation of non-remunerative benefits into salary with a 10% cap, merit-based variable remunerations without acquired rights, reduction of illness benefit to 80%, cap of ten salaries in indemnities excluding bonuses, and judicial modifications.

Losada refused to confirm these points, noting recent changes in an advisors' meeting. She argued that flexibilization aims to benefit employers and workers, facilitating formal employment: "Today half the people have no rights because they don't have a formal job." A previous bill by Romina Diez proposed extending the workday to 12 hours, but Sturzenegger dismissed it as "nonsense."

After the mid-term electoral victory, Milei called governors to the Casa Rosada on October 30 at 5 PM to negotiate support, including the labor reform. Losada praised the Government's humility in a winning position but urged addressing provincial needs to move forward.
