A low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression, PAGASA said on Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration located the system at 3,060 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17.

PAGASA said the LPA has a low possibility of intensifying within the next 24 hours but might strengthen in the coming days. The bureau noted two possible tracks that could enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains to Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao over the weekend.

No tropical cyclone wind signals are expected. Easterlies will cause isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao, while localized thunderstorms may affect other areas from noon onward. No gale warnings were raised.
