A man attacked two Greek American tourists with a knife near the Acropolis Museum in Athens on Tuesday morning. The assailant was quickly detained by police. The victims received hospital treatment for their injuries.
The incident occurred near the entrance of the Acropolis Museum at the foot of the Acropolis hill. The woman sustained light injuries to her leg, while the man suffered more serious wounds to his arm.
Police said the attacker appeared to be suffering from psychological problems, though his identity was not immediately released. Authorities noted that he had been randomly threatening passers-by before the stabbings, with a member of the public alerting officers.
The two victims were taken to a hospital by ambulance. The attack did not disrupt operations at the Acropolis or surrounding sites, which remained open to visitors.
Violent street attacks remain rare in Greece, according to local reports.
