The home energy renovation aid program MaPrimeRénov' resumes on October 1, 2025, after a suspension due to budget overrun. However, its funding is sharply cut, from 3 to 1.5 billion euros for 2025. This decision draws criticism from environmental groups.

Launched in 2020, MaPrimeRénov' has seen tremendous success with over one million aid applications for home energy renovation works. This state-funded French program primarily targets low-income households to improve insulation and reduce energy consumption. In July 2024, it was temporarily suspended due to a budget overrun, exhausting allocated funds earlier than expected.

Housing Minister Valérie Létard announced the program's resumption starting October 1, 2025. 'We are adapting the program to current budgetary constraints while maintaining essential support for vulnerable households,' she stated in a press release. However, the 2025 budget is halved to 1.5 billion euros, down from the initially planned 3 billion. This cut impacts aid amounts for works such as roof or wall insulation, now limited for middle-income households.

Associations like France Rénov' and Greenpeace have voiced disappointment. 'This reduction risks slowing down the energy transition of housing, at a time when France must accelerate its efforts against climate change,' warned a Greenpeace spokesperson. The program still prioritizes comprehensive renovations, with subsidies up to 90% of costs for the most precarious. Since its launch, MaPrimeRénov' has enabled the renovation of hundreds of thousands of homes, contributing to an estimated 20% reduction in CO2 emissions from heating.

Despite these adjustments, the government emphasizes continuing the goals of the France 2030 plan for energy renovation. Applications can be submitted online via the official website, with promised simplifications to procedures to avoid past administrative delays.
