McLaren celebrated its 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix entry this weekend in Monaco. Former driver Fernando Alonso joined current drivers and other team alumni for the milestone event. The team also unveiled its new MCL-HY hypercar on a superyacht in the harbor.
McLaren gathered former drivers including Fernando Alonso, David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen, Emerson Fittipaldi, Juan Pablo Montoya and Lewis Hamilton alongside current drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Alonso, who drove for McLaren in 2007 and from 2015 to 2018, praised the team during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. 'It is an incredible organisation. 1000 Grands Prix in Formula 1, but not only Formula 1, with endurance racing, with IndyCar,' he told Sky Sports F1. The Spanish driver also highlighted the role of McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and recalled his inspirations from Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. McLaren fielded Alonso at the Indianapolis 500 as part of his Triple Crown pursuit. Separately, the team displayed its MCL-HY hypercar on a 73-metre superyacht in Port Hercule. The car, set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship and Le Mans next year, features a twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain producing 707 PS.
