A 28-year-old Memphis man has been charged with first-degree murder after fatally shooting a man he described as his longtime bully. Authorities say the shooting occurred on Wednesday in the 4100 block of Barron Avenue.
Marquillo Kelly faces charges of first-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony in the death of Darrell Jones. Memphis police said Kelly told investigators that Jones had ridiculed and bullied him for years.
The bullying came to a head on Wednesday when Jones mocked Kelly again. According to the affidavit, Kelly pulled out a black Glock 19 pistol and shot Jones several times. Kelly then placed the weapon in the center console of a white Ford Escape parked nearby.
Officers found Jones unresponsive at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Seven silver 9 mm shell casings were recovered along a path leading toward a neighboring home. Kelly was arrested after a 911 caller provided a description of the suspect.
Kelly confessed during an interview and provided details that matched evidence at the scene. He remains in the Shelby County Jail with a bond hearing scheduled for Monday.
