Mexican mixed team wins silver at Diving World Cup in Montreal

Mexico's mixed diving team, consisting of Osmar Olvera, Aranza Vázquez, Randal Willars, and Gabriela Agúndez, earned the silver medal in the synchronized team final at the 2026 Diving World Cup in Montreal. They outperformed the local Canadian team but trailed China. This achievement secures their spot in the Super Final in Beijing.

The 2026 Diving World Cup began its first leg in Montreal, Canada, from February 26 to March 1. On February 27, Mexico's mixed team competed in the synchronized team diving final, which featured routines from the 3-meter and 10-meter platforms.

Osmar Olvera and Aranza Vázquez performed dives from the 3-meter springboard, while Gabriela Agúndez and Randal Willars did so from the 10-meter platform. With a total of 460.85 points, Mexico placed second, behind China with 469.40 points and ahead of Canada with 448.80 points.

The Chinese team members were Jiuyuan Zheng, Renjie Zhao, Jiaxi Cui, and Jian Chen, while Canada's included Katelyn Hongo, Mate Cullen, Mia Valle, and Natán Zsombor-Murray. This outcome qualifies the Mexican team for the Super Final in Beijing, China, from May 1 to 3.

Meanwhile, World Aquatics canceled the Mexican stop in Jalisco, scheduled for March 5 to 8, due to recent violent incidents following the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'. The decision, made with Aquatics México, the Mexican Diving Federation, Clavados de Altura, and CODE Jalisco, prioritizes participant safety, as stated in the official communiqué: “The safety of all participants in the event organized by World Aquatics is our top priority”.

CONADE director Rommel Pacheco is negotiating with World Aquatics to try to keep the event in Mexico, though there is no official response yet. With the cancellation, qualification for the Super Final relies solely on Montreal's results.
