MLB to host drive-in movie events on July 4

Major League Baseball will partner with four drive-in theaters across the United States for special movie and game screenings on July 4. The events form part of celebrations for the nation's 250th birthday.

MLB is organizing the MLB Summer Drive-In presented by Ford at four locations. The theaters in Vineland, New Jersey; McHenry, Illinois; Blue Ridge, Georgia; and Paramount, California will screen the film The Sandlot. Each site will follow the movie with a broadcast of the local team's game, featuring the Phillies, Cubs, Braves and Dodgers respectively.

Family activities at the venues include Ballpark Bites concessions, lawn games, a Play Ball presence, giveaways and a fireworks or drone show. The drive-ins have capacities ranging from 400 to 800 cars.

The Boston Red Sox High-A affiliate Greenville Drive will also hold separate festivities at Fluor Field in South Carolina. These will include a carnival atmosphere and end with a picnic-style viewing of the drive-in experience along with fireworks.
