Naomi Osaka advanced to the final of the Bad Homburg Open on Friday after defeating Wang Xinyu 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. The result marks her first grass-court final of her career ahead of Wimbledon.
Osaka will face fourth-seeded Karolina Muchova in Saturday's championship match. Muchova advanced by beating Elena Ruse 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
Osaka credited her recent comfort on grass to coach Tomas Wiktorowski, who joined her team last July. She has not dropped a set in the tournament and recorded 23 aces across four matches.
After the semifinal, Osaka spoke about her nearly three-year-old daughter Shai, who is waiting in London. "She’s in London right now, so that’s good. She watched it maybe," Osaka said. "I think she just knows that I play tennis."
The final provides Osaka additional grass-court preparation before Wimbledon begins next week.
