Nybro Vikings risks control year over capital shortfall

Nybro Vikings appears set to enter a control year after failing to meet the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's capital requirements for an elite license. The club must now submit a credible financial recovery plan or face potential forced relegation.

The club's finances are under review by the association's licensing committee. Officials expect Nybro to fall short of the rule requiring own capital equal to at least five percent of total revenue.

Magnus Karlström, the committee chairman, told Barometern-OT that any recovery plan must detail exactly how revenue will increase and must be realistic. A control year allows only one such period in five years.

If Nybro fails to meet the target next season after the control year, the club would face automatic relegation from HockeyAllsvenskan. Previous clubs including Karlskrona HK, IK Pantern and Kristianstads IK have been relegated under the same rules.

The licensing process aims to prevent mid-season bankruptcies that would disrupt the league's schedule and financial agreements.
