PDP candidate says godfathers won't decide Adamawa polls

Dr Maurice Vunobolki, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State, stated on Sunday that political godfathers do not determine election outcomes there.

Vunobolki spoke to journalists in Abuja. He explained his return from the All Progressives Congress to the PDP, citing fears of candidate imposition and rules in the Electoral Act on party switches after buying nomination forms.

He pointed to past elections, including the 2015 APC presidential primary where Rabiu Kwankwaso won Adamawa delegates over Atiku Abubakar. Vunobolki also noted that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu lost PDP primaries in the state multiple times.

The candidate expressed confidence that the PDP would retain the governorship under Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, whom he praised for delivering democratic dividends and using hunters and community vigilantes to address insecurity. He dismissed the idea that Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid on the African Democratic Congress platform would sway the Adamawa race.
