Pemex to invest 93 billion pesos in petrochemicals and fertilizers

The Energy Ministry presented a Pemex petrochemical and fertilizer reactivation program involving 93 billion pesos in investments between 2026 and 2030.

Luz Elena González, head of the Energy Ministry, outlined the plan during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference. Pemex director general Juan Carlos Carpio and Veracruz governor Rocío Nahle attended. The plan aims to raise national fertilizer output by 849 thousand tons annually to exceed 4 million tons per year. The Morelos, Cangrejera and Cosoleacaque centers will reach 1.8 million tons yearly, while ProAgro and Fertinal will add 2.4 million tons. Carpio said the investments will support the agricultural, automotive, plastics, textile, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. The Escolín plant in Poza Rica will also be added. The goal is to strengthen Mexico’s energy sovereignty and food self-sufficiency.
