A 20-year-old woman from McVeytown, Pennsylvania, faces multiple charges including first-degree murder after authorities say she abandoned her newborn daughter outside to die.
Jordyn Kauffman gave birth to a baby girl at her home on May 14. She held the infant for about 30 minutes before placing the unclothed child outside, where it was later found dead, according to charging documents and the Mifflin County Coroner's Office. The baby had a cut umbilical cord and died from injuries caused by insects and prolonged exposure to the elements, the coroner said. Kauffman went to work hours after the birth. The next day her father took her to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, where she denied having been pregnant. Police were notified and recovered the infant's body along with a placenta in a trash bag nearby. Kauffman is being held without bail in Mifflin County Prison on charges that also include aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Authorities are seeking the infant's father and have asked any men who had contact with Kauffman between July and September 2025 to come forward.
